What is an Infrared Sauna?

An infrared sauna uses Infrared heat to emit Infrared Radiant Heat, which can be directly absorbed into one's body. Other saunas, such as steam or hot stone saunas, do not allow the same absorption.

Some people associate infrared heat with some kind of unhealthy radiation - that is NOT the case! In the sauna, infrared radiant heat is simply a form of energy that heats your body through a process called conversion, much like the sun warms your body (but without the bad sun effects)! You can be exposed to far-infrared heat for hours and it will never cause your skin to burn. Infrared heat is perfectly safe and the sauna benefits are endless.

Health Benefits of Infrared Saunas

The benefits of infrared heat are absolutely endless! Infrared therapy can be used as a healing tool for everything from weight loss to cancer.

DETOXIFICATION

One of the biggest reasons that far infrared saunas are so beneficial to the human body is because of their ability to remove toxins (environmental, food, and others) from the body, which are often at the core of most illnesses. The human body is a bio-accumulator, meaning that any toxins our body can't immediately get rid of, are stored within us. Because far infrared waves can penetrate our skin and body tissues so deeply and so quickly, they help us to release these toxins through sweating.

Releasing these toxins can help to aid or even cure symptoms that you might not have ever though were caused from toxin build up such as:

Digestive Issues - Diarrhea, Constipation, Bloating, Gas

Joint Pain

Sinus Congestion

Headaches

Fatigue

Inability to concentrate

Loss of Appetite

Sleep Disorders

Irritability

Weight loss or Weight Gain

HEART DISEASE

Infrared heat and sauna infrared therapy help to improve and increase your circulation and blood flow which can, in turn, help to lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

WEIGHT LOSS

Everybody loves getting skinny, and while there are no easy ways to look like a supermodel, a thirty minute session in an infrared sauna can burn up to 600 calories just by sitting there! Further, by deeply penetrating your muscles and organs, infrared therapy can increase your metabolic rate, which helps you to burn calories more efficiently in every day life. While the weight you might lose in a session (up to 4 pounds) will most likely be restored as soon as you replenish the fluids in your body, the calories you burned will not return. Further, the more your body becomes accustomed to the heat, the more calories you can burn, and over time, combined with a healthy diet and exercise of course, infrared therapy can greatly help in your weight loss initiative.

CELLULITE REDUCTION AND CLEAR SKIN

Because human fat starts to liquefy at 110 degrees F, subcutaneous fat can be released along with your sweat during infrared sauna sessions. Your pores, both on the body and face are being cleansed as you sweat, and as a result, your skin will become healthier and smoother as you get rid of all kinds of toxins that are accumulating in your body fat, beneath your skin, and in your pores.

RELAXATION

Stress can be one of the biggest causes of ailments of both the body and the mind. Stress is a problem that many people overlook, but it can greatly affect the body's circulation, motor skills, and mind, which in turn can lead to endless problems all throughout the body. Taking 30 minutes a day to yourself, to relax and bask in the heat and soothing rays of the far infrared sauna can really help in releasing stress and helping to create a better you in both body and mind.

PAIN MANAGEMENT

The heat and deep penetration from far infrared waves have been shown to be very beneficial in patients with arthritis, fibromyalgia, and chronic pain. Infrared sauna benefits are great for this, as well as specific arm, leg, and other joint pads and bands that give off infrared heat.

You can have a Far Infrared Sauna at HOME!

When I first heard the idea I thought, "Are you crazy! who do you think I am? Bill Gates? Madonna?" But after doing a bunch of research I realized it's really NOT expensive. First off, there are varying price points for infrared saunas, from 1 person saunas, to 5 person infrared saunas and beyond, and from wood sit-down infrared saunas, to single person portable infrared saunas.

If you live in a temperate climate, your infrared sauna can be placed outside, or otherwise it can go in a large bathroom, or a basement, or really anywhere it will fit. If you are in a small space, like an apartment, you can purchase a portable infrared sauna that can pack up when you're done with it!

If you think about the unnecessary money you are probably spending on doctors, perhaps naturopaths, and gym memberships, and you translate that into the cost of an infrared sauna, you will find that you can make that money go a LOT further for your body and mind, by putting it towards a home infrared sauna.

Further, who likes the idea of getting up early, packing a gym bag, and trudging to the gym in the morning? Does waking up, walking down the hall, stepping into an infrared sauna for only 30 minutes for a relaxing and healthy start to your day sound much better? I think so!!

STAY SAFE - INFRARED SAUNA RULES

HYDRATE

Drinking one to two tall glasses of water, preferably with an electrolyte powder, both before a 30 minute infrared sauna therapy session and after, is extremely important. It may be tempting to want to prolong the sauna weight loss by not drinking, but this will hurt your body immensely over time. Dehydration is very dangerous, so bottom line, you MUST Drink water. As an added incentive, by drinking water you make sure you don’t replenish the lost calories!

TOWEL OFF

As you sweat, toxins are being released from your body. If you do not remove the sweat from your skin, it allows the chance for the toxins to re-enter your body! Make sure to keep at least two small towels with you in the sauna at all times and make sure you continually are wiping off the sweat you accumulate, Don't forget your back, the backs of your knees, armpits, etc etc.

DIZZY?

If at any time during the session you feel faint or dizzy step outside the infrared sauna, hydrate with a bottle of water, and don't return to the sauna until you are feeling better.

TIME

30 minute sessions are a great starting point, and will allow for all the benefits of infrared therapy. As you become more accustomed to the heat, you may want to increase to 45 minutes, and eventually even 1 hour. More than 1 hour is NOT necessary, and remember that 30 minutes is more than sufficient. Don't overdo it or push your body beyond it's limits.

thank you Hairupdostyles for a great hub on the health benefits of the Far Infrared Sauna. I enjoyed the two vids you included, and the cutting to the chase by raising some of the objections (or questions) people have and then addressing them, right off the bat. We are enjoying ours... I am heading up there right now! Voted you up!
